Let’s Put On A Show!

About Us

The Players began in the 1930’s as a small group of friends drawn together by a passion for theater. Those early performances benefited local causes and organizations.

Today, the St. Johnsbury Players still strive to enrich their community through the magic of theater, providing a fun and educational experience for participants and an affordable evening of entertainment for audience members.

Blithe Spirit Auditions

The St. Johnsbury Players announce auditions for their production of the classic Noël Coward
ghostly comedy “Blithe Spirit”, to be held on Sunday and Monday evening, August 2 and 3 at
6:30 PM. Auditions will be held in the downstairs hall of the United Community Church, 1325
Main Street.

“Blithe Spirit” is recognized as classic of English comedy, and features Noël Coward’s renowned
witty dialogue. Charles, a novelist, invites a famous spiritualist, the eccentric Madame Arcati, to
his house to hold a seance with his wife, Ruth, and friends, Dr. and Mrs. Bradman. Charles
intends the seance to serve as research for an upcoming book, but Madame Arcati accidentally
revives the spirit of Charles’ former wife, Elvira, who takes up residence in the house, leading to
a wide assortment of comic mischief. The antics of the household maid, Edith, surround Charles’
efforts to explain the presence of Elvira to his current wife.

Information about the play and characters can be found at

Long-time director Bill Vinton will be organizing the production on-stage. Rehearsals will be
held three days per week up to production week, with performances to be held on October 15-18.

No preparation is needed for auditions, and it is not necessary to attend both evenings. It is useful
to have a sense if people plan to try-out, especially if you will arrive later: please email
wvinton@gmail.com with any questions that you might have.

We hope to see you there!
